1938 Martin 000-45

SOLD

(Sold). SALE PRICE. A 1938 000-45 is just in at Dying Breed Music. All original finish. Replaced bridge plate- small and maple. It was owned for many years by the legendary Gordon Lightfoot, multi platinum selling artist, Grammy nominee, and member of the Songwriter Hall of Fame. One of only 19 made in 1938- this guitar features 1 3/4 nut and forward shifted bracing. This guitar has the exact same specs as a pre war d-45 (the true holy grail of all acoustic guitars). This was the flag ship small body model at Martin, only below the D-45. Pre World War 2 D-45s have sold for $600,000. 45 style was the highest degree of ornamentation. The 45 style was a big upgrade over the 42. All hand done inlays—binding with abalone pearl inlays (on the top, back, sides, and neck heel), “boxed” inlay on the end piece, a completely bound fretboard with pearl inlays, a pearl inlaid rosette, multicolored mosaic back strip, gold tuners, and a beautiful vertical head stock inlay with extra pearl. Just slightly smaller body than the D-45. The 000-45 was discontinued when World War 2 started in 1942 just like the D-45. Total produced before being discontinued in 1942 was 265.
